AbilityNet Tech support allows you to book personalised IT support at home for older people and disabled people of all ages. 

Age UK (over 55s) at home support  

Age UK offers at home support for residents to do digital in later life. You can schedule a home visit to help use a tablet and get online.

Adult Training Network (ATN)

ATN provide free digital skills courses for those new to technology. These courses are available to people of all ages.

ASCEND   

ASCEND offer a range of education and training opportunities designed to help you develop your IT skills. Whether you’re looking to improve your digital literacy or gain new qualifications ASCEND can help you. 

Computer training – South Hill Centre  

At the South Hill Centre, you can enrol in a variety of computer courses, ranging from ‘basics for beginners’ to intermediate and advanced levels. The centre also offers additional courses such as:

• ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages)
• self-employment
• craft classes. 

Digital skills courses – Step2Skills 

Step2Skills offers a wide variety of courses for Hertfordshire residents aged 19 and over, including various digital skills courses. You can choose from accredited learning if you want to gain a qualification, as well as short, non-accredited courses and workshops.  

Learn My Way 

Learn My Way is a free online platform designed to help you gain basic digital skills and build confidence in using the internet. The courses cover topics such as:

• using your device
• using email
• online safety and security
• spending money online
• managing your health and finances online, and much more.

Digital inclusion workshop – Little Hadham Village Hall Trust

Discover how to make the most of your mobile phone, iPad, or any other digital device with personalised one-on-one support from the digital volunteers.

Free digital drop-in sessions – Sawbridgeworth Memorial Hall

Perfect for beginners who need help improving their digital skills. Knowledgeable digital volunteers are on hand to provide help and advice.

IT taster sessions – Hertfordshire Libraries  

Libraries in Hertfordshire offer low-cost IT taster sessions where you’ll receive an introduction to using a computer or tablet, helping you feel more confident with your device. 

Digital Inclusion drop-in sessions

CDA Herts offers free weekly digital inclusion drop-in sessions in Village Halls in Little Hadham, Datchworth, Bennington, Tewin, and Ickleford. These friendly sessions, supported by trained Digital Champions, help elderly residents with online tasks like shopping, paying bills, and more, all while enjoying tea and cake.

Communities1st offers several activities and learning opportunities, including “Computers and a Cuppa,” a free service for those needing help with digital technology, and a Digital skills training workshop to develop your digital skills.

Digital Help Finder tool – Essex

This tool identifies your skill gaps and suggests resources to help you improve. Whether it’s for those day-to-day online tasks or to develop skills to pursue a more digital career, it supports skill development and enhances employability.

Health and Digital Literacy Hub – Tye Green Library Harlow

The Health and Digital Hub sessions give you free advice and support on:

• the NHS app
• booking online appointments
• ordering medicines safely and securely. 

NHS App and Account Support – Epping and Harlow Libraries

Get free help and support with any NHS app-related queries. These sessions are available at Epping Library and selected Harlow Libraries, including Mark Hall, Great Parndon, Old Harlow, and Tye Green.

Essex – community groups

Digital Boomers 

Digital Boomers help older people and individuals living with disabilities in west Essex (Epping, Harlow and Uttlesford) with their computers, tablets, and smartphones. You can join the informal sessions where you can learn more and connect with others in a friendly environment. 

Digital Buddies – Jubilee Hub Saffron Walden  

Digital Buddies provides you with comprehensive support with using your IT and apps. You can visit the drop-in sessions at the jubilee hub.  

Community Hub – digital skills support 

Visit the drop-in centres in Epping and Chigwell for free help and advice to help you improve your digital skills. The hub also provide support over the phone or can arrange a home visit.

TouchPoint Community Hub – Stansted  

The TouchPoint Community Hub is an inclusive space for the community around the Stansted area to meet and gain access to resources, advice, and support around digital skills training and more.
