-
Continuing healthcare for adults
Some people aged over 18 with long-term complex health needs qualify for free health care, arranged and paid for by the NHS. This is known as NHS continuing healthcare. -
Continuing healthcare for children
Children and young people with complex healthcare needs may qualify for free health care, arranged and paid for by the NHS. This is known as Children and Young People’s Continuing Care and they can get it until they become 18. -
Personal health budgets
A personal health budget is an amount of money to support your health and wellbeing needs, which is planned and agreed between us and you (or someone who represents you). It means that money spent on your care can be prioritised on meeting your personal health and wellbeing goals -
Treatments that are not routinely funded
Not all healthcare and treatment is routinely available to all patients on the NHS. Where treatment isn’t normally funded, we have an approach for making sure that decisions about providing treatment on the NHS are made in a way this is fair, thorough and consistent. -
Individual funding requests (IFR) for medical treatment
An individual funding request (IFR) is an application to fund a treatment which the NHS usually wouldn't pay for. There is a process to make sure that all applications are assessed fairly and equitably. -
IVF and specialist fertility treatments
Around one in seven couples may have difficulty conceiving. If you think you may need help conceiving, make an appointment with your GP to discuss your options. -
Evidence-based treatments or interventions
Some treatments and procedures where clinical evidence shows there is limited clinical benefit, are not routinely funded for all patients but may be offered to some patients through a separate approvals process. -
Treatment for specialised services
Most NHS healthcare is planned and arranged locally. However, if you have a rare or complex condition such as a rare cancer, genetic disorders or complex medical, surgical, or mental health condition this will be arranged as a specialised service.
