General health checks – over 40-year-olds

The NHS Health Check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40 to 74. It’s designed to spot early signs of stroke, kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing these conditions. An NHS Health Check helps find ways to lower this risk.

Hertfordshire Better Health Bus

The Better Health Bus brings health and wellbeing to you, travelling around Hertfordshire to provide free health checks, support to stop smoking and health and wellbeing advice.

Blood pressure checks for those eligible over 40-years-old

Community pharmacies registered to provide blood pressure checks, for those eligible, and Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (blood pressure monitors you wear for 24 hours) in Hertfordshire and west Essex.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) screening

AAA screening is offered to men during the screening year (1 April to 31 March) that they turn 65 to detect abdominal aortic aneurysms (a dangerous swelling in the aorta). Men over 65 can self-refer.

Health checks for people with a learning disability

People over 14 with a learning disability are entitled to have a health check with their GP every year. If you have a learning disability (or are a parent or carer of someone who has), make sure your GP is aware and adds you to their list.
