Hertfordshire Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust, sometimes known as HPFT, provides most of the mental health services for people who live in Hertfordshire. Their ‘single point of access’ (SPA) will connect you with advice and support if you are experiencing mental health difficulties.
The SPA team can provide guidance about local services and how you can access them. Some services you can contact by yourself, while some services need a GP or another health professional to refer you. Contacting the SPA will enable you or someone you care for to have an initial assessment of your mental health needs, which will allow you (or them) to determine what support would work best.

Talking Therapies
NHS Talking Therapies for anxiety and depression
Talking therapies are psychological treatments for mental and emotional problems like stress, anxiety and depression. There are lots of different types of talking therapy, but they all involve working with a trained therapist. This may be one-to-one, in a group, online, over the phone, with your family, or with your partner. There are a number of online support options available including webinars, self-help videos and guides.
A GP can refer you, or you can contact the Talking Therapies team yourself.

SignHealth (BSL)
NHS therapies for you, or someone you care for, who may be deaf and coping with anxiety and depression. All therapists are Deaf, or hearing and fluent in BSL, which means there is no need for an interpreter. Their therapists understand deaf culture and the service is secure and confidential.

Online platform providing tailored therapy to those suffering from a range of mental health problems. Appointments are available seven days a week, 6am – 11pm.

One YMCA – Signpost Counselling
Signpost supports children and young people aged 10 to 25 across Hertfordshire by offering a safe and confidential space for them to talk about their mental health. Includes one-to-one counselling, coaching, group therapy, parent support and outreach support.

Herts Mind Network
Herts Mind Network delivers essential mental health support in Hertfordshire, providing a diverse range of services through seven Wellbeing Centres and other venues across all ten districts of the county. Services are available to all residents in Hertfordshire over the age of 18 and they offer dedicated services for 5-18 year olds.
They create opportunities for individuals experiencing mental ill health to make choices, find their solutions, build resilience and manage their wellbeing.

Mind in Mid Herts
Mind in Mid Herts: has four centres – Stevenage, St Albans, Welwyn Garden City and Hertford. They offer wellbeing services that support recovery from mental health problems, support people with long term conditions to stay well and prevent relapse. Services include counselling to men/women’s groups to peer support and more.
Telephone lines are open 10am to 4pm Monday to Friday.
- St Albans centre: open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, with late night opening to 8pm on a Thursday (last meeting 7pm)
- Stevenage centre, open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm, with late night opening to 8pm on a Tuesday (last meeting 7pm)
- Hertford centre: open Thursday and Friday, 10am to 4pm
- Welwyn Garden City centre: open Monday and Tuesday, 10am to 4pm.
There are also groups running outside the centres in north Hertfordshire, Harpenden, Welwyn/Hatfield and Hertford.

Hertfordshire’s independent health and social care champion. Healthwatch Hertfordshire ensures that NHS leaders and other decision-makers hear your voice and use your feedback to improve care. They listen to needs, experiences and concerns about local health and social care services, so they can speak out on your behalf. They have statutory powers to hold the system to account.
They gather feedback through research and engagement and by inviting you to share your experiences. They also offer a signposting service, if you have a query or complaint about your care and/or treatment.
