The Herts and West Essex Health and Care Academy’s annual careers expo was held recently.
Over 200 students attended the University of Hertfordshire in Hatfield, for our free event showcasing careers in social care, nursing, allied health professionals (AHPs), midwifery, healthcare science, pharmacy, medicine, mental health, library services, finance, and many more.
With six schools and colleges from Hertfordshire and west Essex attending the event, the space was bustling with young people meeting colleagues from our area’s different provider trusts. Their stalls had an array of interactive equipment on hand to explain what their job can involve, helping the visitors to consider different career options as they plan their futures.
This year for the first time an interactive patient journey experience was held, allowing the students to explore the many roles it takes to ‘look’ after a patient attending A&E. We also had local colleges and universities as well as our trusts work experience, education and apprenticeships and recruitment teams also supporting to give guidance on next steps.
Event organiser Niki Galvin, the Academy’s Engagement Officer, said: “I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported this year’s event. This is my 4th year arranging and I love every minute of it, the atmosphere, opportunities it gives our colleagues and students, as well as amazing feedback makes it all worthwhile”.
