The IPC team provides expert guidance and operational support for our system partners. They offer expert advice and support to manage infection risks and outbreaks. If you have questions, need to raise concerns, or require outbreak support, the team is available to co-ordinate a quick, effective response.

Overview

The responsibility of the Hertfordshire and West Essex (HWE) ICB Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) team is to advocate the Five-Year Strategy and related HWE ICS Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Strategy to drive improvements in IPC and AMS practices.

The HWE ICB IPC team work collaboratively with our system partners to gain oversight and assurance that all measures of IPC and AMS are implemented to ensure the reduction of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAIs).

Recognising infection prevention and control is everyone’s responsibility, we work jointly with our system partners to ensure commissioned services are safe, responsive and effective; by adhering to the principles of Health and Social Care Act 2008 Code of Practice on the prevention and control of infections and related guidance (December 2022) and using evidence-based practice as outlined in the National Infection Prevention and Control Manual for England (February 2025).
