The ICB recently partnered with Broxbourne Community Church and the charity One Vision to offer blood pressure checks to a church congregation.
The screening event focused on early detection and management of high blood pressure (hypertension), particularly within the Black and South Asian communities who are at higher risk.
This initiative aligns with the NHS 10-Year Plan’s goals by emphasising prevention, neighbourhood care and tackling health inequalities. Early detection and treatment of high blood pressure helps prevent serious health risks like heart disease, stroke and dementia. By holding the event in a familiar and accessible location, we ensured community members received the care they needed in a comfortable, trusted setting.
Adijat Balogun, Broxbourne Community Church Pastor “It was exhilarating seeing people from our congregation take part in this event. Many people would not normally go to see the doctor or do a health check up until something is wrong but having you guys come over meant that we can at least be at peace that the majority of us are relatively healthy.”
During the event, 30 blood pressure checks were recorded and church leaders were trained in how to take blood pressure readings so these can be offered to more members of the church and local community in future.
